A key difference between aligners and traditional braces is their removability. Patients are typically required to wear aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day, in the proper sequence prescribed by their treatment plan.

As such, patients can remove their aligners during meals and when brushing their teeth. These devices require greater discipline, however; the most common cause for Invisalign treatment failures is non-compliance among patients with wearing their aligners.

Similarly to braces, patients must attend regular follow-up appointments to adjust the fit of their aligners and maintain the required pressure.
